Toasted Caramel Coconut S’mores . . Yum!

I woke up this morning around 4 a.m for no apparent reason. I couldn’t fall back asleep no matter what I tried, so I decided to spend some time on Pinterest (side note: follow me there : @simplysarahblog ). I came across a picture of s’mores while looking through a summer treats page.

I’ve been craving them ever since. Luckily for me, I impulsively bought the stuff to make basic s’mores last time I was shopping.

So after signing up for classes (getting a late start on the school stuff . . .) and straightening up around the house, I decided to make one.

The best s’mores are made over a fire, but given that it was ten in the morning and already 98 degrees, I skipped building a fire and roasted my marshmallows over my gas stove.

I like to make unique food, so I layered caramel syrup and toasted coconut chips under the chocolate. Such a great idea!

It was a tad messy, but it was worth it!

Any tips for great or unique s’mores? I would love to try out a new idea next time I make them.

New Hair

So I’ve been pinning pictures of purple hair on my personal Pinterest for years but I’ve never had the guts to do it.

On Wednesday, I had an appointment with Crystal (she’s the best, really!) and I just went for it. She was so excited!

I love it so much!

Marley says I look like Grape from Strawberry Shortcake. That made me laugh. Cody and my mom aren’t too fond of it.

Both of my super cool (and rather unique) shirts were purchased from Nasty Gal. If you haven’t been to their site, check it out! It is such a cool place to shop. They have all different kinds of clothes.

Have you guys dyed your hair any wierd colors?

FabFitFun Summer 2015 Box :: Products & Reviews

My FabFitFun summer box is here! Woohoo!!

Summer FabFitFun Summer 2015 Box

I was so excited when I came home from work to find it in my mail box yesterday. My day hadn’t been going well. I was sick the last few days then was called into work at the last minute. But, it got better after I went tanning, picked up a smoothie, and found my summer box waiting for me 🙂

After cleaning up from work, I opened my box and was super excited at what I found. Everything this season is perfect for relaxing in different ways!

My favorite thing in the box is by Tarte Cosmetics. I got their LipSurgence lipgloss in the shade Tipsy. It’s a sheer pinky peach. I love this gloss. I’ve been wearing it all day and it still is mega shiny. I can’t wait to pair this with some of my nude lipsticks.

My next favorite thing is a roll on perfume by Inkling Scents in the scent Sultry. It’s delicious. A musky summer scent with sandalwood, vanilla, and floral scents. The fragrance is long lasting. This is because it is oil not alcohol based and doesn’t evaporate from the skin as fast as other fragrances. If you are ever looking for a new perfume brand, check them out!

I am so in love with the gold dipped heart pendant from Wren Studio. This dainty charm necklace from the LA based company is a classic. It is small enough to layer but cute enough to wear by itself, too. I can see this becoming a staple in my wardrobe.

I really love the Hello Konjac cleaning sponge. I have a very similar one from Boscia made with hydrating clay. It has really helped me with my texture issue since I’ve been using it. I think I’m going to give this one to Cody. I know he won’t use it too frequently, but it will help when he does. If you don’t have anything like this in your beauty arsenal, you need to grab one.

I really love the wireless speaker included in this box. It is too cute – it looks like a tiny, pink kettle ball. I love it! It connects to your phone wirelessly up to 30 feet, is rechargeable, has a FM radio, and a lithium battery.

I adore the nail wraps by Scratch. These are so versatile and just plain enough that they can work with pretty much any outfit. I won’t be able to wear these for a while – we can’t have our nails painted at work – so I might see if any of my friends want them.

Also included was a gift subscription to Headspace. Headspace is an app that guides the user through mediations whenever, wherever. Tons of celebrities use this app to chill out and get away from the stress in their life. I can’t wait to try it out. I’ll have to post about my experience.

I think the black and pink jump rope is way cute. I was looking for a jump rope last week when I was at TJ Maxx but all of them were 2+ pounds weighted, so I passed. I was super excited to find this contained a rope because it is a great way to burn calories, work on agility, and to relax.

Gorge included a daily leave in conditioner spray. I won’t be using this one because a type of alcohol is the third ingredient and I try not to use any products on my hair that have alcohol listed in the top ten ingredients. I usually try to limit my hair products to five or six ingredients, with those being water and different types of oils. I’m going to see if one of my friends wants this product.

The last product include, I was already familiar with: Vaseline intensive care spray moisturizer. The kind included is the aloe smooth type, but I had previously used the cocoa butter spray. This stuff is pretty great. My only complaint is that you have to rub it in, kind of eliminating the need to have your lotion in a spray.

Have you guys tried any of these products before? Let me know in the comments!

Love with Food :: Late Review :: June Tasting Box

The June tasting box from Love with Food is absolutely yummy! I love the theme – Saturday in the Park – because it really plays on summer and summer activities. As always, my favorite thing about my Love with Food box is that a portion of the proceeds go to fight hunger. It feels great to give back, no?

As I type this, I’m perched on my bed listening to my neighbors spray their field while Knight and Day plays in the background. I love Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz so this 2010 film instantly became one of my favorites. When Cody and I found it in the $5 bin at Walmart last year, I was beyond ecstatic. Friday night Coy and I set up my new desk and tv stand, so I’m taking advantage of the new set up (finally having my tv hooked up in my room) to binge on my favorites while I go through my clothes, reorganize my room, and work on some crafts. I’m taking a break from all the cleaning to jot down this post.

The first thing I pulled out of my June box was Shelia G’s Brownie Brittle in chocolate chip flavor. I saw these at Target a few weeks ago and almost got them. I passed though because I had already grabbed a few unplanned snacks. These are so amazing! I cannot express how much my sweet tooth loved these. I have to say, the package was incredibly sweet. But, at only 120 calories per bag, I might just have to grab a few of these to keep around for late night cravings.

My second favorite snack out of this box is the Kutoa bar. The name is Swahhili and means ‘to give’. For every Kutoa bar purchased the company gives a meal to a child in need. How generous is that? I got the flavor cherry cashew. These bars come in a variety of flavors including chocolate banana,, chocolate espresso bean, peanut butter banana, and blueberry almond. They are gluten free, soy free, vegan, and non GMO. With 182 calories and 5 grams of protein, you really get all your bang for your buck. They only downside is that the bar has 17 grams of sugar. But depending on your lifestyle and the day, that’s not too bad. The bar itself was pretty good. Cherry cashew isn’t a flavor I would normally pick, but I love how you can really taste all the flavors in the bar. The texture is great, too. It isn’t dry or gravelly. It was moist and that really surprised me.

So the SunRype 100% fruit strip I haven’t had any of type of snack like this since I was little! Most of the Fruit Roll Up or Fruit by the Foot type things have ridiculous amounts of sugar and artificial dyes. The SunRype fruit strip has only 11 grams of sugar and 50 calories. I had Cody try these and he couldn’t tell the difference. This has inspired me too look up recipes to make homemade fruit leathers. I know Marley would love them. She would happily be a fruitarian if we’d let her! Haha

Next up was is the Sheffa Everything Savory bar. Confession time: I was so nervous to try this! I’m not too big into savory snacks and something marketing itself as ‘everything savory’ just seemed a little too much. But, I tried it . . . and . . . I’m sold. Honestly, it might be too much for some people but I loved it. With only 80 calories, 2 grams of protein, and zero sugars, I think this snack might make a great afternoon pick me up. I will be buying some of these to stash in my backpack for school. I tried to pin point the flavors, but I couldn’t.

You guys know, I love trail mix, so I was pretty happy when I pulled out Emily’s Trail Mix. It’s a mix of cashews, cranberries, apples, raisins, and almonds. Each packet has 110 calories, 9 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein. It also has 30 milligrams of sodium. This little baggie has is pretty well balanced for a snack sized trail mix. It’s also pretty yummy! I probably won’t be buying these, but I wouldn’t turn them down if they happened to be bought for me. I really loved the addition of apples. I will have to try this next time I make trail mix.

I was a little confused when I pulled out Bali’s Best Tea Candy. I had never heard of tea candy before so I was intrigued to say the least. Hesitantly I popped one in my mouth when I started this post. I immediately fell in love. These taste exactly like a glass of good, old fashioned, southern iced tea while being sweet, but not too sweet. I doubt I will purchase these, but they are amazing!

I was particularly excited about the La Panzanella Croccantini artisan Italian crackers in Rosemary. I love crackers. I use them to make cheese trays, with hummus, or sometimes I just have them by themselves. La Panzanella crackers would be perfect for all of the above. I paired them with Butter Kaise and an herbed goat cheese spread. They tasted phenomenal with both! I’ve already ordered more of these. I make mini cheese pates all the time and these will upgrade those plates.

And last but not least, the one item that has held this post from being up sooner: Popchips in Crazy Hot. I don’t eat anything spicy. I had an ulcer when I was younger and I’ve avoided anything remotely spicy since. I had to get Cody to try these. He doesn’t eat anything remotely heathy (I swear I’m trying to work on this!), so I put them in a bowl and pretended they were just normal chips. He loved them! He asked where I got them and couldn’t believe they were healthy when I told him. I know he will be willing to eat these again. This bag has 120 calories, 2 grams of protein, and 1 gram of sugar. I won’t be getting the Crazy Hot flavor, but if I see any of the others when I’m shopping, I’ll probably pick up some of the other flavors.

All in all, this box was a win. I promise I will try and get next month’s box up much quicker with better pictures. I should have retaken these, but I had already opened and eaten most of them.

Have you tried any of these snacks? Any good suggestions on other healthy snacks to try?

Berry BBQ Chicken :: Easy Dinner

Monday night I did not feel like cooking, but I had promised Cody that I would make dinner. I hadn’t planned anything. About four thirty, I headed to the kitchen and started digging around in the cabinets and the freezer.

I came across a box of frozen, boneless chicken breasts and decided chicken would be perfect. Especially since the only other meat I found was half a pound of frozen bacon. Obviously I need to go shopping!

I pulled out a baking stone cookie sheet with raised edges (perfect for cookies or roasting veggies) and greased it with a drizzle of garlic infused olive oil. I diced half an onion into very thin pieces and sprinkled them across the sheet. I placed the chicken breasts a few inches apart on the sheet.

Next, I mixed up a sauce to pour over the chicken. I crushed half a cup of black berries, two table spoons of spicy mustard, one fourth cup of Pampered Chef’s Raspberry Habanero sauce, and one third cup light brown sugar. After pouring the mixture evenly over the chicken, I sprinkled the meat with Tastefully Simple’s Garlic Garlic seasoning. I then wrapped the pan in tin foil in stuck it in the oven at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

While that was baking, I diced six small brown potatoes and boiled them in the microwave for 30 minutes. After the potatoes were soft, I roughly mashed them and mixed them with cheddar cheese blend, a tablespoon of Sabra’s roasted garlic hummus, and one tablespoon of butter.

When the chicken timer went off, I removed the tin foil, basted the chicken with Sweet Baby Ray’s barbeque sauce and returned the chicken, uncovered, to the oven for ten minutes.

During those ten minutes, I reheated some homemade rolls that my mother made on Sunday.

The chicken was super moist and very flavorful. Cody dipped his in more barbeque sauce, but I ate mine just the way it was. I drizzled my roll with amber agave nectar. I love agave nectar. I will have to make a post soon on the different ways you can use agave nectar.

Blackberry and Raspberry BBQ Chicken Lazy Night Dinner

This dinner was so easy! I’m a huge fan of easy to make, easy to clean up dinners.
