August Love With Food Box

One box. One meal.

B&W Love with Food Box Aug 2015

The idea behind Love With Food brings me joy each time I receive my box. Every month when I indulge in my shopping habit, I also help somebody that doesn’t have the ability to help themselves. Helping others, in any way, is such a great feeling.

Before we get to my box this month, one point of business: all of my pictures in this post are black and white. I had changed my settings for a different project, but forgot to change them back before I took these pictures. I didn’t even notice until I pulled them up to edit them. Anyway, back to my favorite LWF box thus far.

B&W Love with Food Box Aug 2015

Pretty much everything in this month’s box is a hit with me. Many of the products are new to me, and I was pretty excited to try them!

B&W Love with Food Box Aug 2015

The first thing I tried this month was he the popcorn by 479°. I got the asiago, parmesan, and cheddar flavor. Simply delicious. I could see myself purchasing these again! Each bag has about 70 calories, 0 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein. Not too shabby for an afternoon snack or a carb-y study break snack.

B&W Love with Food Box Aug 2015 479 Popcorn

Goodness, the next thing I tried was amazing! The Stonefire Original Naan Crisps are great by themselves or dipped in hummus. Each bag has 60 calories, 2 grams of protein, and zero grams of sugar. I think these will quickly become a stocked item in my pantry.

B&W Love with Food Box Aug 2015 Naan Crisps

I was very skeptical of the Wild Friends Sesame Cranberry Peanut Butter. Now, I love peanut butter – so, so, so much. I could eat it for or with every meal, but I have never had flavored peanut butter before. I tried it on toasted French bread. And I was honestly pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t too bad actually. My mom tried it and loved it. Each pack has 7 grams of protein, 180 calories, 5 grams of sugar, and 14 grams of fat. Peanut butter and other butters have healthy fats, so don’t rule them out totally because of their high fat content.

Continuing with the skeptical products, I tried the Fruity Pie in apricot and almond flavor. I’m not too big on fruity things like this, but it was pretty good. My niece loved it so much. I plan to order her some of these for snacks or as part of breakfast. My pie has 69 calories, 1.3 grams of fat, and 1.25 grams of protein.

Yum. That pretty much sums up my thoughts on the next product: Enlightened Roasted Broad Beans in the flavor garlic and onion. I could not get enough of these! Each packet has 100 calories, 7 grams of protein, and 0 grams of sugar. I have every intention of purchasing these!

B&W Love with Food Box Aug 2015 Roasted Broad Beans

I really like the Stash tea. I got the flavor Lemon Rooibos. You simply add the tea to a bottle of water and shake. So cool, right? I had no idea things like this were made. I know I will be getting more of these soon.

B&W Love with Food Box Aug 2015 Stash Lemon Tea

I was very iffy about the next product: organic hard candies by Go Organic. I love the idea behind it. Organic candy is a much better alternative for your child. I actually wasn’t too fond of these; they were a tad too sour for my taste. I plan to give them to my mom to give out at her office.

B&W Love with Food Box Aug 2015 Go Organic Apple Hard Candies

The last product in my box was by Kind. It was a healthy grain popped bar in salted caramel. Each bar has 140 calories, 3 grams of protein, and 7 grams of sugar. I ate this as a quick breakfast, but it could also be had as a snack. Super yum!

Back to School Blues

I cannot believe I go back to school on the 24th! SO crazy!

This will be my last semester as an undergrad. I’ve been taking college classes since I was sixteen. Ridiculous. Most were dual credits through my high school and the rest were through a program at my local community college. Most of the classes I took weren’t related to any specific degree program. That’s how I finally decided to be a literature major instead of a business/marketing major.

Anyways, I had an advisement appointment to confirm that I am signed up for all the classes I need. I am! Whoop.

I used this opportunity to grab a coffee at Starbucks. I really wanted to get a cold brew, but they were all out. I grabbed a caramel macchiato instead. I drink mine with soy milk, two pumps caramel syrup, and no caramel drizzle on top. Yum. I adore coffee.

August IPSY Glam Bag

It is literally impossible to turn on the television or radio without hearing an advert for back-to-school sales. Crazy, right? My last few days of freedom do not need to be spent being reminded about school.

Unless it is from my IPSY delivering my Prep School themed bag, then it is completely fine!

August IPSY Glam Bag Back to School on BySarahShea

I adore my hounds tooth print bag. The black and white look is very classic but the pink zipper and charm give it a nice, updated look.

August IPSY Glam Bag Back to School on BySarahShea

The IPSY products are great this month! They don’t seem to be too tailored to a back-to-school theme, but the products are fun.

August IPSY Glam Bag Back to School Marc Anthony Argan Oil of Morocco

The first thing I pulled turned out to be my favorite – the Marc Anthony Argan Oil sample. I love Marc Anthony hair products. Everything thing I’ve tried by this brand has been amazing! This oil is meant to be used as a pre-styling treatment or by itself to condition or add moisture to your hair. My hair is super dry (genetics!) and I use tons and tons of oil to help keep it moisturized. If this products keeps working as well as the first two times I used it, it will quickly become part of my regular hair lineup.

August IPSY Glam Bag Back to School Marsk Brush

The second item I pulled out is a brush by Marsk. I think it is meant to be a concealer brush, but I did not check that online to verify. I have all the brushes I need, so this will be going in the ‘give to friends’ pile.

August IPSY Glam Bag Back to School Skone Cosmetics Luxe Doubler Shade WIne

One of the products I think I will use the most is by Skone Cosmetics. I had never heard of this company, but I received their double duty eye and lip pencil in the shade wine. I will be using this lip liner all the time! It is the perfect deep cranberry shade! I applied it last night under Hikari lipstick and my lips were still stained this morning after dinner, a snack, and several bottles of water. Pretty great staying power, if you ask me.

August IPSY Glam Bag Back to School Hikari Lip Gloss August IPSY Glam Bag Back to School Hikari Lip Gloss

Speaking of Hikari lip products, I received their lipgloss in the shade Merlot. This glass is very opaque, thick, and not at all sticky. It is more like a liquid lipstick than a gloss. I love it! This color is a very rich wine-y color – the company named the product perfectly! I know I will use this gloss frequently.

August IPSY Glam Bag Back to School Pencil Me In Cosmetics August IPSY Glam Bag Back to School Pencil Me In Cosmetics

The last product I grabbed is eyeliner in the shade Boysenberry by Pencil Me In cosmetics. The shade is a nice navy, great for counteracting eye redness! The coolest thing about this product is the lid . . . it has a built in sharpener! How neat is that? I know I’m all the time misplacing mine and this will be handy.

Favorite Shopping Stores

I enjoy shopping. It is one of my favorite things to do. I know it sounds superficial, but I don’t care. I love shopping for groceries just as much as I do for shoes. Strange, right?

I spend my free time browsing apps and online stores when I’m not bouncing from store to store. Everybody seems to be shopping more since school is starting & there are tons of sales happening right now so I thought I would share with you a list of my favorite stores for almost any occasion. Check these shops out; they are all wonderful!

*Nasty Gal: This LA based retailer was founded in 2006. The name is a little strange, but it was inspired by the great Betty Davis. They sell vintage pieces, brands like For Love and Lemons, One Teaspoon, Jeffrey Campbell, and also have their own label.

*Asos: This British store sells a ridiculously large amount of merchandise and brands. Sifting through it all can be a tad tedious, but they have great finds if you are willing to put in the time.

*Mod Cloth: This is one of the first places I ever bought anything online! They sell vintage, indie, and mod clothing, accessories, and household goods. Some brands they stock include Jeffrey Campbell, Chinese Laundry, and tons of other ones.

*Haute Look: Launched in 2007, this online based store is similar to TJ Maxx and Marshalls. They get new inventory daily and the sales last anywhere from a few days to a week. I have found amazing discounts on books, makeup, and clothes. This is a must check site if you have expensive taste on a small budget.

*Black Milk: This Australian brand finally opened a U.S. base in the last year or so, but they were worth the shipping price before! They specialize in printed bodysuits and leggings, but they have amazing shirts, dresses, and swim wear. Most of their stuff is themed around Disney, fantasy, and comic bookcharacters, but they also have things that are plain. Sometimes the Australian and US websites have different products, so check both of them. I adore their black leggings. They are the only pair I have found that are one hundred percent, no joke, completely opaque.

*Sephora: You have had to have heard of this amazing makeup store. In case you haven’t, they sell everything from their own brand to high end makeup and fragrance brands. I buy the majority of my makeup, fragrances, and face masks there.

*Urban Outfitters: This U.S. based company has been in the news in the past years for selling items that aren’t always politically correct, but I try not to let this color my judgment of their other products. I love the variety they have in their clothing and the cool apartment décor they carry.

*TJ Maxx: I could write a book about why I ove this store . . . and now you can shop on their website, too! How neat is that? I love that I can buy designer bags and other products at a discounted price. It’s a great place to find house decorations, gifts, or hair products. They have a large selection of clothes and it’s a good place to get workout clothes. My local TJ Maxx has a large selection of jewelry and watches, also.

*American Eagle: I know this store is tended to be marketed to teens and young adults, but I still technically fall into the latter category. I like to buy their jeans for daily wear and sometimes I get plaid or plain shirts their when they are having a sale.

*Dick’s Sporting Goods: Oh my goodness. I love this store. They have such an amazing collection of products and brands. I love to get my workout clothes there!

Please, please, please leave me your favorite stores! I would sincerely like to check them out 🙂

Super Easy Caramel Pie

Caramel pie is my favorite pie.

Easy 3 Ingedient Caramel Pie on BySarahShea

Okay, so I might say that when I eat apple pie, too. Each one is my favorite when I have it. And when I have to choose between the two of them . . . well, I usually go for a small bit of each!

But there was no apple pie today, just caramel. That is not a complaint! I am so happy with my pie. Haha

My mom has been ridiculously busy at work this week and will be for the rest of the month. She is an attorney and has a trial coming up so she’s been working past eight or nine every night. I decided to make her a pie I knew she would like.

I searched the cabinets and pantry for pie ingredients. I thought about making pecan pie – it’s her favorite, but we only had a handful of pecans. I thought about lemon, but I didn’t have enough eggs or butter. So, I settled on caramel pie. It is super, super easy to make and I had all the ingredients (or so I thought; I had to go get whipped topping).

Easy 3 Ingedient Caramel Pie on BySarahShea

This pie is a great pie to make if your family calls and says they’ll be over for dinner or friends decided to come for a visit at the last minute. Most of the cook time is boiling, so you can clean, cook other things, or relax while it is being made.

All you need is 2 – 4 cans of sweetened condensed milk, one 8” or so graham cracker crust, one tub of whipped topping, and any garnishes you like (nuts, chocolate chips, etc.). Try and get the cans with the pot tops. It will make it much easier – and less messy – when it comes time to open them.

The pie takes about 5 hours to make start to finish but prep time is roughly 5 – 10 minutes depending on how organized you are. The amount of milk you need depends on how big your pie is going to be. 2 cans usually will fill the normal size pie crust. I usually boil an extra one to have to make fruit dip.

Peel the labels off the cans and fully submerge them in a large pot of water. Boil the cans for roughly three hours. I turn my cans every 30 minutes to prevent the milk/caramel from burning. Shorter boiling time produced a runnier caramel while a longer time produces a thicker caramel.

While they are boiling, make sure to keep the cans covered. I have heard of cans exploding on people if they aren’t completely covered in water! Luckily, that has never happened to me.

After the cans are done boiling, remove the pot from the heat. Fill the pot the rest of the way full with cold tap water. This will help the cans cool. After 30 minutes, remove the cans from the pot and sit on a folded towel to finish cooling. You should wait to open the cans until you can touch them without any pain.

When opening the cans, be extra careful because the filling can get everywhere! If you don’t have the pot top kind of can, use one the can openers that removes the entire lid if possible. The filling will start to ooze out of the opening and it can get super messy if you have one of the ones that just pokes the hole in the can.

After opening the cans, spread the caramel into the crust until it is even with the lip of the crust or just lightly higher. Chill the caramel pie in the freezer for 15 – 30 minutes until the caramel is no longer warm. Once it is cool, spread the whip topping over the pie. Use as much or as little as you like.

Sprinkle your toppings onto the pie. This time, I just used crushed walnuts and mini chocolate chips. You can drizzle caramel or chocolate syrup on, top it with diced apples or cherries, or any combination. Get creative!

If you need to serve the pie soon, return it to the freezer until time to cut it. If you don’t need it for several hours, put it into the fridge. The pie is always best served cold.

I love this pie! I often request it instead of a cake for my birthday. So yummy; it kind of tastes like O’Charley’s caramel pie if you have ever eaten it.

I love to enjoy this pie with a cup of strong coffee. Yum 🙂

Have you guys tried this pie before? Any suggestions on different garnishes?

Liebster Award :: Discover New Blogs

The sweet and very fashionable Sydnie over at Snazzy, Sassy, and Classy nominated me for my first ever blog award, the Liebster Award. I am so very grateful, thankful, and overwhelmed that she nominated me for this. This award is given to blogger by other bloggers. By accepting this award, I am supposed to included eleven facts about myself and nominate other bloggers. How cool is that?

Thanks Snazzy, Sassy, and Classy for the nomination of the Liebster Award! On BySaraShea

I love to clean when I’m stressed! It helps me compartmentalize and deal with the stressor more efficiently.

I have a bit of a focus issue. I cannot focus on imply one thing at a time and as a result, I am often found doing at least two or three things at once.

If I could only wear one color for the rest of my life, it would be black. I love how the color can be transformed from professional to grungy to whatever without issue. Some colors, like a vibrant lime green, just aren’t appropriate for all settings! Haha

My favorite thing to do is curl up with a good book, a cup of coffee, and spend the day reading.

I have a ridiculously large collection of scented candles. My current favorite is the vanilla cupcake by Yankee Candle Company.

I used to play softball.

I love to travel. I would spend my entire time traveling if possible. My favorite place that I’ve been was a tiny farm town in Germany. I have no idea what the name of the town is, but it was simply amazing.

My favorite thing to do at the end of the day is wash my face. I take my nightly face routine very seriously and never miss it, no matter how late it is.

I am a terribly messy person. I love order, but for some reason I can never keep things too orderly. I’m really going to try and combat this when I move into my own place.

Tom Hiddleston is one of my favorite actors. Not only is he talented, he is also very philanthropic.

I am an awful speller. No, seriously, I am so bad that sometimes I have to google words because autocorrect cannot figure them out.

I nominate the following to continue this lovely blog – to – blog award

National Watermelon Day . . . Yes, it is really a thing.

I hopped on Twitter this morning while I waited for my bath for finish running (there’s a joke in that somewhere, right? Like, catch it or something?) and saw the hashtag Nation Watermelon Day. Intrigued, I clicked. I didn’t know that was a thing. Did you? It seems like every day there is some new National Something Day. Not that I mind; it gives me a chance to indulge in whatever they are hastagging.

I was in luck, because yesterday I saw a roadside stand selling these amazing looking watermelons. Now I am not a huge watermelon fan. On the contrary, I actually kind of dislike them. But, I am trying to get a taste for the fruit because I need to eat more fruit and because they are so hydrating. I convinced my mom to pull over and buy one. It honestly was not that hard to do because she and Marley love the stuff.

National Watermeon Day on BySarahShea

This morning, along with my bowl of cheerios I had a few slices of watermelon. It wasn’t that bad . . . I guess.

I think tomorrow I am going to try frozen watermelon cubes in my water.

How do you guys eat your watermelon? Anything super creative?
